"What would Rez do?"
The real question is, what wouldn't Rezma Rahman do?
She is an incredibly driven, passionate, and resilient woman of color. Not only does she express herself genuinely to others, but she is also deeply authentic with herself. Her biggest strength is in my humble opinion from spending time with Rezma is her constant enthusiasm and thirst for life. It's infectious, and it rubs off on everyone she meets.
Her knowledge of the world is extraordinary—having traveled to nearly 65-70+ countries in her 20’s - 30s. This is a remarkable accomplishment for someone so young. What’s even more incredible is that she has done it all on her own terms, driven by a genuine desire to learn, observe, and grow from her experiences. As she journeys through life and her travels, she passes on her wisdom and vibrancy to others.
One of the most remarkable things about her is her ability to be supportive and meet people where they are in life. She not only impacts others in positive ways but is also open to accepting wisdom and knowledge from those around her.
Just when you think she couldn’t be any more incredible, Rezma’s journey takes another inspiring turn. At the age of 21, she launched her very own successful hostel business in Vietnam. she fell in love with the culture, the people and the land. But she didn’t stop there. Her ventures have been driven not just by personal passion, but also by a desire to serve her community, particularly her Bangladeshi roots. Which led Rezma to start a wonderful business that inspires the South Asian community to fall in love with their vibrant culture, especially through its food. Bangladeshi cuisine is complex, rich, and full of flavor, and she’s sharing that with the world through her pop-up restaurant, Roti Mami. What started as a small idea in 2023 has since become a reality. By 2024, Roti Mami had been featured in Vogue India.
Rezma doesn’t let her failures define her, and neither should you. Like many of us, especially in the South Asian community, we’re often compared to others and have high expectations to perform exceptionally well in everything we choose to do, or what is expected of us.
Failing is never an option. However, Rezma, being a strong, modern brown woman, shows all of us—regardless of how we identify or where we come from—that failure is just part of the journey.
